Background
The intergenerational trends in most developed countries are providing a springboard for the discussion of the role of fiscal policy. This process is already occurring in Australia. The conference will provide a special forum for discussion of issues which are of major importance in reviewing the role of fiscal policy and its potential impact on financial markets.

Objectives

• The international debate on the role of short-term counter cyclical fiscal policy;
• The role of budget targets and implied sovereign debt outcomes;
• The appropriate size of government;
• The impact of changes in fiscal policy on the private/public composition of debt; and
• The role of financial markets in changing fiscal circumstances.
